Nice job!! What an excelletn drawing. And you were multi-tasking too. :)
I enjoyed rading your profile. Funny how we get nicknames.
It's nice to hear you like to read. Might I suggest you start now in a blank lined book, and write down the title and author of each book as you read it? I started doing that after college and wish I had started sooner because I read a LOT in high school. Biographies mostly, and history (but not African, although I should have as we never studied it in school). Now that I am 2 days away from turning 50, I have a list of all the books I've read since 1980 - nearly 1000 in all - and when I want to reccommend one to someone I have the list and can go through it til I find the one I'm thinking of.
EXCELLENT name for your dog. What a hoot! Happy drawing and welcome to EDM.
Emily, welcome!!! Your fan is just wonderful! I find that drawing while someone else is reading or lecturing helps me to concentrate; do you think that could be the same for you?
You did a wonderful job with this. It sure wasn't an easy one to draw. I'm with Alan on history. That was one of my favorite subjects in college. Welcome to EDM.
Betty, I do think that listening to a book being read to me definitely helps me focus better on my drawing. I love to listen to audio books all the time so when I started listening to a new one yesterday, I also started drawing a little shelf of pet rocks that I painted and beanie-babies.
To everyone, thanks for all your comments! It's truly an encouragement to hear them from you guys. Thanks again!
Welcome to the wonderful world of EDM! A wonderful start...cool blog name...hope to see much more.:)
Also, a bit of "wisdom" from a former middle school ancient history teacher...there's a whole lot of art out there in this big wide world...Use that African history lesson as a jumping off place...you've got super talent! WooHoo! :)
To the history whizzes: I'm glad you like history:D It depends on what time and place the story is told and how it is presented that effects my opinion. My mom likes history and she even says it's a "dry" book lol
Hello from Pennsylvania & welcome to the group. Splendid drawing! I was glad to see you chose to draw (for the "something you want to turn off") a fan & not your mother reading history to you.
Emily - welcome to the group! I'm new to it also and having a lot of fun with the challenges. Your fan is great! Can't wait to see more sketches! :) Marva
What a nice way to start, please keep it up. It may never become your life work but the hours you spend drawing will give you more peace and contentment than you will ever know, I speak from years of experience, I'll be ninety in December and I'm still drawing and painting.

Great drawing!
Hey Way to go! that fan is super! I love how you use the negative space to get your shapes. Welcome to EDM! Can hardly wait to see more of your stuff!
Very nice drawing...and history should never be boring.

Sheesh, and I read that twice for typos too. Ah well.
Fabulous drawing! I can never draw anything man-made. I do better with organic subjects where it doesn't matter if your drawing is symmetrical.
I really like your drawing because it turned out so well! :))
Wow Emily, your drawing is wonderful. I think you must have a gene for talent in the artistic realm!!! Very nice work!!

That's a great drawing! Hope you'll post many more! (and get a more interesting book - history shouldn't be boring!)
