9 of 100 portraits are complete! I decided that every tenth picture, I want to draw a famous person. I accepted the suggestion of Westley from the Princess Bride. We found a picture of confusion as Westley lies, strapped to the torture device. "It's the pit of despair. Don't even..." *hack hack* "Don't even think about escaping."

I tasted my first sushi. It feels...memorable. So memorable that I STILL get sick thinking about it. Yup, that good. I officially, strongly dislike seafood of all types. Most people would argue that tuna sandwiches and fish sticks aren't seafood. I would agree! If they classified as real seafood, I wouldn't like it!

I'm not sure what came over me. My comp I teacher asked me to sing a line from my favorite song in class. So I belted out the first couple'a lines. Afterward my classmate walked out with me and said, "I was sittin there and thought, 'Oh man, she's singing!'" I felt just as surprised.

I experienced my first, official bat-fright. I laugh every time I look at this page in memory of my frantic reactions. Boy, afterward I thought this was hilarious but at the time I almost peed my pants from fear. Pure fear. While pinning the bat to my wall with my broom and said to my mom with a quaver in my voice, "This will make a great journal page."

While packing this summer, Jon and I found a strange little recorder-like instrument. I learned to play "Concerning Hobbits" on it and felt pretty pleased with myself. Watermelon Days was held in Fayette that week also. I sat for two caricatures and an "arm" painting. The fireworks at dusk were marvelous as always!

All of us Eichelbergers (that still live under the same roof) help with children's church when it's our week in the rotation. Thus, we have been named, The E-Team. We each have a job. I start with songs, then my brother and my dad have a puppet show for the kids, my mom then has a lesson. Finally we have crafts, and if there's still time...a game or two.

I'm taking a course by the Teaching Company called, "The Art of Reading". I absolutely love it. We talk about the authors, the narrators, the writing style and how that lets you see into the minds of the characters....Then there's story vs. plot. All good stuff! All this is to say, I thought I liked Harry Potter before...now it's the "subject of common interest" (a quote from the book, "Cheaper by the Dozen". If you haven't read it, pick it up! It's excellent. So many laughs!) Whew! I'm a bit long winded today.

My friend, Dawn, gave me this cute little book last summer on our way to Mississippi. We were supposed to teach her how to Zentangle...but it turns out that there's very little time for art on a mission trip. My mom managed to turn something out everyday, and I'm just in awe.

Here he is. The finished project. In the darkest spots I used charcoal but everything else was done with my handy-dandy mechanical pencil. He smells nice too! (I had to spray him with hair spray so the charcoal wouldn't all rub off)

I love this man. I don't know who he is, but I love him. Most of all I love his face. This is the face that changed my opinion about wrinkles. I love them! I can't wait to get them! They give a face character and it's so much more fun to draw a face full of wrinkles and laugh lines than a smooth super model. If you draw one of each and set them next to each other, which one do you think that people are going to love? The most beautiful one, of course! The one full of wrinkles!

He's a WIP, I really need to get back to work on him. Actually, I think I'll go do that right about...now.

Last minute trip

We were sitting on the couch, it's about 12:30 and it was Mom's last day off while Jordan was with us (we traded her for my brother for 2 weeks) and our plan to go to the pool fell through. So we started looking up things to do in Iowa that would be fun for a girl of 6. We found out that tickets bought after 5:00 were half off at the state fair so we packed a lunch and started out for our 3 hour drive.

We didn't get to see the art building which kinda bummed me out but we still went on two rides with the little girl (carousel and ferris wheel) and we ate deep-fat-fried twinkies, and snicker bars AND a twinkie log (frozen twinkie dipped in white chocolate, almonds and covered in whip cream).

This view is from the top of the ferris wheel. It was the first time I'd seen an amusement park lit up at night.

I went on a mission trip this summer to M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I. We helped rebuild houses for Katrina victims. I say "rebuild" cuz that's what we wanted to do, but what I really mean is "repaint". I had the best group a person could ask for and even though we worked in a heat index of 105, it felt good! I get to go again in January and I'm just countin down the months!

In the middle of the week we had a free day where we got to be tourists so we went to the beach, ate out, went sight seeing, and did a little shopping. That's when I set my eyes on this gorgeous bag. It was fifteen dollars, and I'm a bit of a penny-pincher since I don't earn a whole lot (10 dollars a week for mowing the lawn) but my mom told me that if I didn't get it, I would regret it for a long time.

I wish I could say that my bag held only the most romantic things: an old first-edition of Alice and Wonderland (I actually can't stand that story), love letters from my true love, a pair of cute reading glasses (I'm really near-sighted. Don't need reading glasses) and the like....Unfortunately all it holds right now is the school books I take to art while I wait for my class period.

This makes me giggle every time I see it! My DVD Math teacher (I'm homeschooled, can't remember if I put that in my self-description) , Paul Ziggler of Systematic Mathematics says when you're learned to add and subract fractions, "You can only add and subtract like things: Apples to apples, oranges to oranges, bananas to bananas, and hippopotamuses to hippopotamuses!" That quote will stay with me for the rest of my life. It's very moving. And I think of it every time I play this game.

Also on the art club field trip, we ate at Bananzas (which wasn't all that it was cracked up to be in my most humble opinion) where they had vending machines! My favorite! So there were little critters and I simply had to have one. When I first got this little guy, I (and many others) honestly thought it was some mutant dog with buck teeth, but the fluffy tail cleared that up.

I went on an art club field trip and along with visiting colleges and art shows, we also stopped at the well-loved, Hobby Lobby where I bought these awesome beads (that I still have yet to use) and two .005 Micron pens with which I used to draw this picture. Love Hobby Lobby!

We bought it for my mom because she couldn't go with us. So we got her this trinket to let her know we thought of her and it was perfect because she collects teapots!

My newest addition is a little monkey and the thing that started it all was a miniature of Jose Carioca from the the Three Caballeros. So here is pretty much everything in between. I have bull dog salt shakers, rubber lizards, Polly Pocket dogs, puddles of glue that dried and I wrote on top of, pet rocks, and many other vending machine finds.

This is a purse that I purchased from the well-loved Goodwill. It's has a corduroy feel with nice big pockets in front. It's big enough to hold my planner and finding a nice purse that big at Goodwill has not been an easy search. I put so many things in it, though, that it makes me feel like my should is going to dislodge itself from my body.

My mom got a Color Cutter pen for Mother's Day. It has an Xacto knife inside a silver marker. She let me try it out and I had lots of fun. Mom and I were also talking about how we've never been able to get the hang of Opus. So I thought maybe I should do a whole Zentangle of Opus' so I could practice and get it down. I think it turned out rather nicely.

I made these for a Doodlerssketchpad trade. The technique I used for the card on the left is one that I learned from a lady at camp. I'm not sure what it's called but you take your water color and make it really wet. Then you put a big glob on the top of your paper. You can shake your paper, tap it on the table, whatever you want to get the paint to drip down the page. You can try to make it change directions but that's really hard to do.

You get a really neat effect when the colors run together and you have two layers of color.

This is what I made for the "Colorful Stars" trade. I think I like the one on the right the best. I called it "Stocking Star" because when I see red and black stripes it remind me of socks. :D

I went with my friend Becky to #1 Nails in Waterloo so she could get her nails done for prom. There was a wonderfully nice lady getting hers' done and I tried to draw her without success. But when I showed it to her, she said it reminded her of something her husband sent her home from Iraq and she had it framed in her house. How cool! Something I did reminded her of something she had framed in her house! Definite confidence booster!

Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of "W, X, Y, &, Z" So this is only 4/5 of my Zendoodle Alphabet
When I sat down to make these cards, I thought I would stop trying to make a font and instead use the same pattern to make a letter. I really like all the cards from this bunch but "A" and "B" are my favorites.

This was my first attempt at using colored pencils in this way. I think the "G" turned out the best but I like the pattern of "H" better.

I like "N" and "O" best of this group. These were actually the first cards I made. The ATC trade went out of order so that made it interesting.

I think that my "S" and "T" worked out very nicely in this pod of cards. I hope whoever has them now enjoys them!

It was so nice out yesterday that I thought I would spend a few hours outside drawing some of our colorful flowers. I drew tulips, daffodils, and what we believe are grape hyacinths. I drew each flower three times using graphite, water color, and Pitt Pens.

This wasn't a very good scan. But you can kind of tell that this is a sketch of a bridge. This was something my mom and I decided to draw while driving to my sister's house. We thought it would be neat to draw the old bridge in Nashua framed by the new one.

Catching Up On Old Times

It's been so long since I have made a blog entry. This is what I have been making lately.
The funny thing about this journal page, is that I have managed to spell "attic" wrong, twice!
This was at my friend's birthday party. My dad was in a conversation with her and I figured she would be there for a while so I thought I probably had enough time to draw her. I wish I could have captured how beautiful she really is.
I love the library. It's one of my favorite places on earth. The environment is just so inviting. So I got to sit by myself and read. After a while I looked up and realized how nice the rocking chair in front of me was. I simply had to draw it.

I laughed so hard after finishing this, below, when I realized that the firefighter looked like the Joker so i had to emphasize my mistake and outline her mouth in red. Now I like Caramel de Lites even more than I did before!

Zen Vases

The first vase is just something that I saw on the internet and ZenDoodlified it. I used the shapes and color to show that the case was hollow. The second one, however was inspired by a woman that I used to know at the nursing home. Her name was Josephine and I named that card Joe's Vase. The "shadow" kind-of makes a "J" shape and the flowers, which look like hearts, represent all the love that she had for life and everything around her. She simply put color into everything around her. I miss and love Joe and this is just a little something for her.

This was the challenge for Make-Believe Mondays group: Draw something with more than four legs. I used watercolor to paint this picture and I think that it turned out nicely.

After a long day of deiciding what to wear,
She threw on her old sneakers because she didn't care.

She had the perfect outfit, the perfect one to wear,
But she couldn't find matching shoes, not a single pair.

She finally heaved a sigh, put her shoes against the wall.
She decided that it was better to wear no shoes at all.

Since my BFF, Liz, and I are both happily single, we decided to get each other gifts for valentines. When you squeeze their tummies, the say, "Muah! I love you!" Hence the quote. We were going to name it Melvin after the giraffe in Madagascar but we realized the the voice was a girl's so we femenized the name.
